Rev. Dr. Michael Balboni

Michael Balboni, PhD, ThM, MDiv is an instructor at Harvard and a congregational minister and theologian. He holds a Ph.D. in practical theology from Boston University and completed post-doctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health and at Harvard Divinity School.  He has developed a theology of medicine with concentration in the spiritual underpinnings related to care in secular hospitals.  His current theological writing concentrates on Jesus’ call for spiritual leadership and sacrifice in the accompaniment and care of the seriously ill. Of particular interest to SOS is Dr. Balboni's latest book Spirituality and Religion Within the Culture of Medicine: From Evidence to Practice, and the book he co-authored with his partner, Dr. Tracy Balboni, entitled Hostility to Hospitality.
