Tracy Balboni, M.D., M.P.H.

Tracy Balboni, M.D., M.P.H. holds degrees from Stanford University, Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health.  She currently serves as Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School, and as the Program Director for the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program. Dr. Balboni is also the co-Director of the Initiative on Health, Religion and Spirituality at Harvard University.  Her primary research interests are located at the intersection spirituality and the practice of medicine, including the role of spirituality in illness. Of particular interest is the book Dr. Balboni recently co-authored with her partner Dr. Michael Balboni, Hostility to Hospitality. Further, Tracy has for many years been a force as a clinician and researcher partnering as an advocate for the spiritual health professions. Most recently she was first author of the landmark JAMA paper "Spirituality in Serious Illness and Health" and on the team for the paper "Spiritual Needs in Denmark: a population-based cross-sectional survey linked to Danish national registers." Much of her work includes forging improved dialogue between academic theology, spiritual communities, and the field of medicine.
