Jeffrey Breau is a writer, ethnographer, and program developer who works at the intersection of psychedelics and religion. He is a former lead of Harvard Divinity School’s Psychedelics and Spirituality initiative and is a project-affiliated researcher with the Psychedelic Use, Law, and Spiritual Experience program at Harvard Law School.

Since 2023, Jeffrey has conducted a multi-site ethnography of novel psychedelic spiritual communities in the United States, examining their formation, ritual practices, and community structures. He also studies psychedelic chaplaincy, including advisory work with the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital Ketamine Integration Chaplaincy program and co-development of Harvard’s psychedelic chaplaincy training in collaboration with researchers at Emory University.

Jeffrey co-founded and organized the annual Harvard Psychedelic Intersections conferences and co-edited the Psychedelic Intersections Anthology (2024, 2025). His publications address emerging psychedelic churches, ketamine integration chaplaincy, the Hindu origins of the Mystical Experience Questionnaire, and psychedelic ritual practices. His research has been featured in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Psychedelics Today, Psychedelic Alpha, and The Detroit News, among others.
