Keenan Davis, PhD

Keenan Davis, MD, PhD, is a neurology resident at Emory University and a bioethicist affiliated with the Emory Center for Psychedelics and Spirituality. Drawing on cognitive science, anthropology, and moral philosophy, his scholarship focuses on the ethical and existential dimensions of psychedelic therapies, emerging neurotechnologies, and other transformative interventions in neurology and psychiatry.
Dr. Davis completed his MA in bioethics at Emory’s Center for Ethics and his MD at Emory University School of Medicine. He earned his PhD through Emory’s Graduate Division of Religion, where he completed a concentration in Religious Practices and Practical Theology and was a Fellow at the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies. His doctoral dissertation, “Aspiring to Autonomy: An Ethical Phenomenology of DBS for Depression,” explored patients’ experiences of recovery while undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) for treatment-resistant depression.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Davis has contributed to medical education innovation and curriculum reform at Emory School of Medicine.
