Philip T. Ninan, M.D.
Dr. Ninan is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, eMind Science Corp. eMindLog™ is eMind Science’s neuroscience-based measure, that enables personal self-assessment and tracking of stress, anxiety and depression for mental wellbeing. Dr. Ninan is also a consultant to the biopharmaceutical industry and has focused much of his medical career caring for patients and researching: i) the assessment of psychiatric treatment response to pharmacologic, psychotherapeutic and device interventions; and ii) understanding their mediating brain mechanisms. Previously, he was Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia (1983-2006). He received NIMH research funding support for 22 years. From 2006 to 2012 he was Vice President for Neuroscience, initially at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (Global Medical Affairs) and subsequently at Pfizer (Clinical Sciences). He was a Director on the national board of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention from 2008 to 2020. Dr. Ninan is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. In 2003, he received the Psychiatrist of the Year award from the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association. He authored over a hundred peer reviewed journal articles in anxiety and mood disorders, and schizophrenia with an h-index of 50. His work has been published in medical and scientific journals including Science, New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, American Journal of Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry, and Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. He chaired the Treatment Assessment Review Committee of the National Institute of Mental Health (1995-1997) and served on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Anxiety Disorders Association of America.
Dr. Ninan received his medical degree from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India and served an internship at Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, India. He immigrated to the U.S. and completed his postdoctoral training in psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston (1978-1980). He was a medical staff fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, MD (1980-1983).
Dr. Ninan is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association and the American College of Psychiatry.
