Vishal Patel is an Assistant Professor within the Emory Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences as of November 2025. He has joined the Consult-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry service as an attending CL Psychiatrist where he helps in the management of psychiatric illness in the medically complex patient and teaches residents and medical students on the team. Additional areas of expertise include Sports & Performance Psychiatry, neuromodulation (ECT certified with experience in administering ketamine and TMS), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. His clinical interests also include resident education and psychedelic psychiatry.

He grew up in a Hindu family, and he is intrigued by the common thematic elements between spirituality within Hinduism and spirituality associated with psychedelic experiences. His roots are in Gujarat, India, he was born in Northeast Pennsylvania, and he was raised in a rural town in Central Florida.

He studied Applied Physiology & Kinesiology at the University of Florida, obtained his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University in South Florida, completed residency at West Virginia University, and completed CL Psychiatry fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR. During his time at OHSU, he was a team member of the Psilocybin Education & Assessment Clinic for Excellence (PEACE) where he contributed to a quality improvement project related to streamlining intakes through the creation of pre-appointment medical screening.

He has a passion for immersing himself in diverse cultures and the role that sports play in individual + community development. He is trilingual (Gujarati, English, Spanish) while also being able to understand Hindi.
